Set amid the nature park of the Rhön biosphere reserve, the district of Poppenhausen with its five sections Abtsroda (including Sieblos and Tränkhof), Gackenhof, Poppenhausen, Rodholz and Steinwand lies at the western foot of the Wasserkuppe.
